A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of dining in Shine Bakery & Cafe located in SM Aura. This restaurant is the newest baby of husband and wife tandem- Chefs Rob Pengson and Sunshine Puey-Pengson.

I haven't tried Chef Rob's two other restaurant namely The Goose Station and Olive Tree Kitchen and Bar but I read a lot of rave reviews online so I could not, for the life of me, passed up an invitation to try this Having-Fun-With-Everyday-Gastronomy restaurant concept.

The colorful board listed Shine Bakery & Cafe's Specials. It was Steak for Two that week. For PhP 555, you can share Sous Vide USDA Beef Belly, Creamy Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Classic Caesar Salad with Bacon, Croutons & Parmesan Cheese and Organic Multigrain Pilaf. The description looked so enticing and affordable.
|Apple and Arugula Salad PhP 388|
Since we wanted to try all the best sellers in this restaurant, our group decided to go with the chef's recommendation. We started with Apple and Arugula Salad. I love cheese and this Davao Goat Cheese is for the win! Other ingredients are toasted walnuts, apple vinaigrette, pickled radishes, aged balsamic and toasted walnuts.

Umami Fries is Shine's best selling homemade french fries. It is a mix of grated Parmesan cheese, toasted sesame nori and with some secret spices. Best paired with the dip made with Kentucky Bourbon and Honey Cola. Totally addicting!
There's an option to add Cheese Sauce for PhP 88.
|Cornmeal Crab Fritters PhP 355|
Cornmeal Crab Fritters is one of my favorite, it's quite expensive but you will know the difference once you get to bite it, each bite was filled with crab meat. Mix that with tartar sauce and orange and you get an explosion of flavors.
|Cherry Tomato Aglio Olio PhP 188|
Cherry Tomato Aglio Olio is spaghetti mix with olive oil, garlic, parmesan, chopped tomato and basil. It was a bit bland for my taste. I am not a pasta lover so don't take my word for it.

Shine's version of Croque Madame is so much better than Wildflour's, you can view Wildflour's Crooque Madame here.
|Classic Cheeseburger Sliders PhP 288|
Classic Cheeseburger Sliders is a more sophisticated version of McDonald's Cheese Burger... beefier!
|Honey Baked Salmon PhP 488|
Another favorite of mine is the Honey Baked Salmon. This gave me an idea to try baking my salmon at home with honey too!
|Chicken Adobo PhP 333|
Sous-vide is French for "under vacuum". This method of cooking means that the food is sealed in an air-tight bag, dipped in water for no longer than 72 hours at a temperature lower than regular cooking. Result is even doneness and juicier meat.
|Chorizo Fried Rice PhP 333|
O-M-G! One of the members in our group finished this entire order of Chorizo Fried Rice all by herself! To her credit, she didn't touch anything else on the table. She said it was really good, proof was her empty plate (no after photo though lol)

I guess everyone in our table has his/her own favorite. Another member was not able to eat dessert because Duck Confit & Waffles turned out to be her favorite ; p

Don't leave Shine Bakery and Cafe without tasting any one or two (if you are sexy like me!) of its desserts, cupcakes and cakes especially the two displayed above.

We capped the night with a nice brewed coffee, prepared by the chef himself. It was a night filled with inside scoop and chikahan. I can't wait for the next one!
