Birkenstock Gizeh EVA Review | Copper

When Birkenstock Philippines announced its End of Season (up to 50% off) sale last January 20, I said to myself that this is my chance to tick off one of the items in my wish list. I excitedly went to Robinsons Magnolia (Ladies Section, Department Store) the following day to check the items on sale. To my disappointment, only 1 or 2 items (if I'm not mistaken) were at 30% off; the rest on display were regular-priced items.

"Kala ko ba end of season sale?" I blurted out. The SA was clueless. I was the one who informed her about the Facebook announcement the day before. Needless to say, I was all bummed out.

Birkenstock Gizeh EVA | Copper

But then, when the SA informed me that there was a new color released for Gizeh EVA- Copper, I suddenly perked up. She knew me too well because I have been back several times last December to check on the right size for my feet. BTW, it's not on sale but I still bought it because I fell in love at first sight!

Birkenstock Gizeh EVA | Size

Measuring length of feet correctly for Birkenstock:

  1. Place your right foot on the outline, ensuring that the heel and inside foot are level with the lines.
  2. You can now see the LENGTH from the millimeter scale.
  3. Now TRACE the outline of your right foot using a pencil.
  4. If the outline falls within the curve indicated, then get a SLIM model.
  5. If the outline falls outside the curve indicated, you will need a model with normal width.
*Majority of Birkenstock models are available in two widths- Slim (narrow fit) and Normal (regular fit)

Since Copper is the latest color, stocks are aplenty. I was able to fit 2 sizes-  225 (35) and 230 (36). Up to the last minute, I was still contemplating on which size to buy. The length of 225 is just right for me. What's bothering me is that my pinkie toe kept on hitting/rubbing against the edge when I walk. So, I decided to buy 230 instead. Right decision!

Birkenstock Gizeh EVA | Ultra Soft Thong

The ultra soft thong that is attached with a stud also contributes to unparalleled comfort.

I did a lot of research before I decided on buying a pair of Birkenstock. Initially, I was looking at the Mayari design but decided against it because it doesn't look good on my feet when I tried it on. Then I switched my attention to Gizeh, a thong-like sandal, but I read a lot of negative reviews online- need to break-in, thick thong felt uncomfortable, etc. Despite that, I followed my gut and checked it out - I am glad I did!

 Birkenstock Gizeh EVA | Footbed

EVA sandals come with an anatomically formed original BIRKENSTOCK footbed, which offers unbeatable comfort. The elasticated synthetic material also facilitates a rolling motion that is good for the feet and body.

When I tried on Gizeh EVA, I didn't feel any of the negative remarks about Gizeh. The main difference lies with EVA. Ethylene Vinyl Acetate ("EVA") is a high-quality, very light, elastic material with very good cushioning. As a result, it smooths out slight irregularities in the floor and ensures that every step is softly cushioned.

Birkenstock Gizeh EVA |Instep Strap with Adjustable Buckle

The EVA strap above the instep, which can be individually adjusted using a sturdy plastic buckle, enables an excellent fit.

Thank goodness for adjustable strap. I adjusted the hole setting to fit until my heel was contained in the heel cup.  With that adjustment, my toes have space to sit more comfortably. My pinkie toe can move freely without touching the edge of my Birkenstock.  No tight feeling!

Gizeh | EVA

The Gizeh is a genuine classic in the extensive BIRKENSTOCK product range. Modeled on the cork sandal, it is made from ultra light and highly flexible EVA. This thong sandal is made from a single piece of material and produced completely in Germany.

Upper/Insole/Footbed Material/ Outsole: EVA

 Birkenstock | Gizeh EVA

I wore my Birkenstock Gizeh EVA all-day today and it is very comfortable. No need to break it in- the thong is ultrasoft, I hardly feel anything in between my toes. My feet were all sweaty but I am glad to report that there's no stinking smell right after I removed it.... TMI ; p

After one use, the markings on the insole were erased. I wonder if that happened to your Birkenstock EVA too?
