Din Tai Fung SM Megamall Philippines | Restaurant Review

This post about Din Tai Fung SM Megamall and three other entries have been in my draft for over a month. That usually happens if I got caught up in between deadlines for sponsored posts and well, taking care of my family.

Now that summer is almost over and thankfully, all my daughter's summer activities have already ended, I can find time to finish every single post in my draft starting with this one ; )

Din Tai Fung | SM Mega Fashion Hall

Pork Xiao Long Bao Php 315

Known for its xiao long bao (XLB), Din Tai Fung originated in Taiwan since 1958. Whenever I go to Taipei, I see to it that I go to one of the branches near me just to have a taste of its famous soup dumplings.

Din Tai Fung is now closer to home. The first branch opened last December 2015 at SM Mega Fashion Hall. I waited for a few months before trying it and it didn't disappoint.

The soupy dumpling was just as I had imagined the last time I was in Taiwan. You can also view how they make it through a glass window. I don't know about their policy here but I was forbidden to take a photo while I was in one of their Taiwan branches. I didn't bother taking out my camera on this visit.

Shrimp & Pork Pot Stickers Php 220

In Taiwan, you can find a lot of stalls selling pot stickers for a little less. Pot stickers are a kind of Chinese dumplings that have been browned and steamed or simmered. The secret lies in the sauce. No dipping sauce was provided so I felt that this one can't compare to the ones I had in the streets of Taiwan.

Dan Dan Noodles with Spicy Sesame Peanut Sauce Php 135

Stir Fried Watercress Php 185

As usual, DH ordered noodles and veggies- Dan Dan Noodles with Spicy Sesame Peanut Sauce and Stir Fried Watercress. The spicy sesame peanut sauce, surprisingly, turned out really good!

Salted Egg Yolk Prawns Php 375

I love every food that is mixed with salted eggs. I must admit that it is a bit pricier compared to other items listed on the menu but this order is just so yummy!

Sweet & Sour Pork Php 245

In any Chinese restaurant, I always order Sweet & Sour Pork. This dish was a disappointment though. First, for its price, I was not expecting the portion to be this tiny. Second, it was not as good as it looks. Moving forward...

Shrimp Fried Rice Php 210

DH ordered a cup of Shrimp Fried Rice for our daughter. She loves shrimps and she was able to eat with gusto. I think that's the most important thing when dealing with a picky eater, give her what she wants to eat and make sure that she sees it before feeding her.

Mango Sago with Pomelo Php 95

Sesame Mochi in Red Bean Soup (hot) Php 100

We ended our hearty lunch with two orders of dessert- Mango Sago with Pomelo and Sesame Mochi in Red Bean Soup.

How ironic that since Din Tai Fung is now here in Manila, this is the first and only time I have been there. I was never able to go back after that. The queuing was efficient so that didn't turn me off. The service was fast and efficient. Aside from Sweet & Sour Pork, every dish we ordered was a-ok. Hopefully I will be able to go back soon!

Din Tai Fung is located at the Ground Floor, SM Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall, Ortigas, Mandaluyong City. For inquiries and reservations, please call 997 1935.
