Study Space Setup for Online Distance Learning | Before & After Photos

When Covid-19 Pandemic Forced School to go Online

When my daughter's school announced its plan to adhere to the Philippine government's school year 2020-2021 Online Distance Learning (ODL) protocol, I didn't give much thought on the study space or area. It was not until last week when I decided to make use of the tiny table right outside my bedroom door as her study table. It used to display our family portrait and her baby photos.

Initially, I thought that the dining table will suffice as her study area. But the passing cars and sirens from ambulance can be heard when the sliding door facing the garden is open. That was why I decided to check on other areas in our home.

Study Nook

No street noise can be heard because the study area is setup on the second level. Yup, I found the perfect spot for learning with natural light that goes in through the huge window on right (see first photo). Aside from the newly bought retro electric fan, there's no other electrical devices that can distract her other than her iPad, of course.

What's on her study table?

  • Corkboard/Whiteboard
  • Clock
  • Computer
  • Photo
  • Water bottle
  • Snack
  • Sharpener
I try to minimize the clutter on her table so as not to distract her from listening to her teacher.

Komodo Chair

We bought 4 outdoor chairs with arm rest from Komodo a few years back that were no longer being used. I set it up as her chair. I added a padded back rest and a Posture Medic cushion seat for comfort.

Locaupin 3-Tier Kitchen Utility Trolley Cart Shelf

I was one of the thousands who bought the most raved about item this school year, the 3-tier trolley with wheels. Almost everyone I know owns one.

There are 2 kinds- an all-metal which is twice the cost of the one I bought, a combination of metal pole and plastic trays. I also bought baskets that maximizes the use of space in the trolley. The trolley's design inspiration was originally taken from Ikea's Raskog.

What's in the trolley?
  • Books
  • Notebooks
  • Pad papers
  • Pens/pencils/crayons
  • Folders/envelopes
  • Scissors
  • Snacks
  • 37 Key Melodica Piano Premiere

School starts in a week's time. I am glad that I found her the right spot that is suitable for her virtual class. We are all in this together. We can do this!
