Singaporean Cereal Butter Prawns Recipe | Ingredients + Cereal Brand + How To Cook

One of my favorite dishes is Cereal Prawns. I always order it whenever we dine in at Shiok Shiok. But because of the pandemic, I seldom go out. Even though I miss dining out, I don't want to risk it for fear of contacting the dreaded Covid-19 virus.

So, the next best thing to do is to cook my favorite dish.

Cereal Prawns | 3 Main Ingredients

  • 6 large Prawns (remove head and shell then devein; leave tail)
  • 2 sachets of Nestle Nestum Cereal Original 3-in-1 (28g/sachet)
  • 3 branches of Curry Leaves

Nestum Original 3-in-1 | Cereal brand used in Singaporean Cereal Prawn

Anyway, because I miss eating it, I searched online for legit Cereal Prawn recipe. Luckily, I found    several posts. But almost all recipes didn't include the brand name of the cereal they used. I am so glad I found one blog that named Nestum as the brand that tastes like the legit Singaporean dish lah.

Where to buy Nestum?

Nestum is not available in supermarkets that I frequent to so I searched over at Shopee and found it... yey! The Quezon City seller shipped the item immediately. I ordered May 25 and received it on May 27. It is Nestum Original 3-in-1 pouch. One pouch contains 15 sachets. Cost varies per seller. I got mine for PhP268 but I only paid PhP178 via Shopee Pay using Shopee voucher, coins and free shipping.

Since the Nestrum delivered was already 3-in-1, it already contains milk and sugar. I don't recommend adding more milk and sugar.

Where to buy Curry Leaves?

Next, I looked for curry leaves. There is no substitute for it. It gives off the aroma that Singaporean Cereal Prawns is known for. I need it.

Unimart in Greenhills, San Juan is selling it for PhP111/pack. The brand is Basic Necessity Salad Time (see photo above).

Where to buy Large Prawns (Sugpo)?

I bought large prawns from Robinsons Supermarket. It costs PhP 1158/kilo. 12 pieces is about half a kilo or PhP 600.  In this entry, I only use 6 large prawns for a family of 3.

I am sure that you have the remaining ingredients needed in your pantry like:

  • Butter
  • Bell Pepper or chili if you want that spicy kick in your dish
  • For batter, 1 medium Egg and 1 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • Oil for frying the prawns
